Second Story
Eleven Sixth form students from Ravenswood School in Bromley were lucky enough to bag themselves a once in a lifetime trip to Paris. The students won the trip after their short alternative film was selected to be shown at the 9th edition of the Paris Cinema International film festival 2011. The students wrote, directed, produced and starred in their winning film.
For seven years now, the city of Paris, the world capital of cinema, has been offering the audience and the professionals a modern, dynamic, creative international film festival. With a growing attendance every year (over 75,000 festival-goers in 2010) the students film will surely be a huge success. The students had a brilliant time and were able to see all of the attractions available in Paris. The winner of the festival will be announced on July 3rd, we wish the students the best of luck!

Main Story
David Haye and Audley Harrison weren’t the only boxers taking part in a title fight this weekend.
A young boxer from Bromley & Downham ABC maintained his 100 per cent record by securing the national schoolboy U66kg title at Brentwood Leisure Centre.
Sam Walker, aged 13, stopped Jordan Howard (Benny ABC) in the third round to take one of the high-statuses titles up for grabs as an amateur boxer.
The young pupil from Ravens Wood School, Bromley, fort in the semi-finals a fortnight earlier. After looking very impressive against Darren Townley (City of Gloucester ABC), winning that contest 8-1 by computer scoring, he was very confident in fighting in the final of this prestigious title.
After triumphantly winning his this contest, Walker has been chosen to represent England in the tri-nations contest against Scotland and Wales.
Helping Walker prepare for the fight, by providing sparring sessions, were club members George Jupp, Ashley Surin, Sam Ewen, Jacob Ewen, Alex McKay and Chris Tsiopani.
Not only is Sam a promising boxer, he also plays football for the Coney Hall Under 14s who have backed his boxing triumph all of the way.
“Well done Sam. All your team mates and all at the Club wish you every success with the England Team in the future”
All his family, including his Dad Matt and his Grandad Joe, are rightly very proud of what he has achieved.

Audience profile
My newspaper is aimed at a teenage audience. I will be mainly aiming it at youths aged 13-19. It will be aimed at both boys and girls with a social class from C1 downwards however, for a young person to pick up a newspaper it would probably be because they are used to seeing there parents reading newspapers which may mean their parents are C1 or of a higher class.
I want to challenge this idea and make young people pick up my newspaper as it appeals to them, what ever their parents class.
To make my newspaper stand out to my target audience it will have to relate to them and their lifestyle, as it is a local paper I will show what is happening in their community with other people their age. The advertising will be a key convention in my newspaper to catch the teenagers attention with adverts of their favourite brands and shops. I can advertise local shops in the community which are popular with my audience, making them interested in the newspaper and getting the community involved.
The psychographic categories my audience are most likely to fall into trendies and drifters, people who admire their peers but don't know exactly what they want.

Rivaling
R- I am trying to represent the youths of Bromley through my news paper. I believe in Bromley, teenagers are misunderstood. The older generation think that almost every teenager turns to crime rather than living an 'honest' life. My paper will show people that they can be proud of the teenagers of today. I will do this my showing good things that youths have achieved, from winning the great britain boxing title, to producing a brilliant piece of art work.
I-
V- To make my paper successful I am going to follow the more widely known papers conventions. I am using many conventions from 'The Sun' newspaper as this is a working class aimed paper. Therefore the colours and themes of the paper is very playful and easy to navigate. This would be perfect to use for my paper as it is aimed at teenagers so therefore would have to be fun to attract the target audience.
A- The target audience for my newspaper is from 13-19 mainly as I want it to be fun and appealing to teenagers. This doesn't mean that the paper rules out other ages, as they may want to find out what teenagers in their societies are doing. I will use bright, vibrant colours to attract teenagers and also interesting photographs. The stories will be based around teenagers so therefore other youths will want to read about them.
L- I will use a big bold 'fun' font for the title of the newspaper so that youths are attracted to it. I am using the colour theme blue and red because it represents Britain and also the fact that red represents bad, and blue represents a more calm collective type. This is significant to the newspaper as it is showing good things that has happened to the youth and also bad.
I- My ideology is to show that youths can make positive contributions to the community that they belong. This would hopefully attract people to read the newspaper as it shows that not all youths are the stereotypical 'thug'.
N- The newspaper will be laid out so that people can continuously read through it without having to think much. The same theme will run mostly through every single story. The theme of 'teenagers doing good things'.
G- This will be a local newspaper, showing what is happening in the local community. Therefore the photos and text has to be relevant to the local community. For example we are using a story about a young boy who has won the Great Britain boxing title. People will be interested by this story as the young boy is from the local community.

Local Newspaper Stories

Football is a sport that is regularly played around the newspaper's area so therefore grabs the audiences attention. It also has a man celebrating so people will be interested to what the story is about.

The photo shows a youth boxing as the photo so straight away the younger generation readers will be switched on to this story. Also the older generation are often very interested about what teenagers are doing in society, therefore this would be a good read for them also.

This is a story about a man who sued the London underground. It is making London look bad so straight away people will pay attention to it and what to find out what happened. Also the photo grabs the audiences attention as it is a logo we regularly see.

This is a local story about an animal welfare group that helped save 7000 hens. This is a story that would grab peoples attention, as it is a real 'feel good' story.

This happened in my local area so people in this area would want to read about it. The photo grabs your attention straight away as it is someone being arrested, so therefore people may be curious to as who it is being arrested.

Ideas for Brief

For my A2 Media coursework, Given the choice I have decided to produce a newspaper. I will have to create both a front cover and the first inside page.
I chose to create the newspaper as I feel that I already have skills of the programmes used to create one. I have used inDesign, where I created a practise newspaper last year, which has given me an idea into what I am going to be using and how it works to create a professional looking piece of work. I also use photoshop in and out of school regularly, which will be a key skill to creating a newspaper.
The scanning at the top of this post is my sketch of 'The Bromley Times' Newspaper, I want to use this layout for my newspaper as it has all of the conventions of most newspapers. It has a logo in the top left corner, with a plug underneath. The main headline story is just underneath that. Both of the pages I looked at had the structure of five columns, they both contained a lot of information which was laid out very tightly, leaving hardly any of the page blank, along with many adverts aimed at the target audience. From looking at all the conventions I could tell that the target audience age was middle class, for example, one of the adverts was advertising a dancing school for young children, so the reader could send their own children there.
I want to aim my newspaper at a younger audience, mainly teenagers, therefore I will keep the main conventions the same but change the adverts, using adverts aimed at a teenage audience.
